Dialogue

I very much enjoyed this project even though there was a lot of different elements I had to focus on. I wanted the character to be very smug and confident, which I tried to achieve mostly through the facial expressions. To make things easier I set keyframes for the more dramatic head and body movements. That way it was easier for me to work towards a certain position in every frame. I tried making the eyes looking in two directions; to the side and forwards, that is to indicate that he has two targets. The most challenging part was getting his hands out of his pockets without it happening too fast. To make it look better I worked a lot with the shoulders and moving the arms further out on each frame. Overall, I'm happy with the way it came out!

Talking Head Exercise

I had a lot of fun creating this character. Since I picked the voice over before creating the character, I tried to imagine someone who comes off as having an attitude. I gave her a gothic sort of look as I thought it would add to her bossy tone. This was my first time working with lip syncing and I thought it was interesting trying to figure out the way the mouth shapes for each vow. The hardest word to lip sync was the word 'probably'. Not only is 'probably' a word you say very fast, but it also requires more than one mouth shape.

Head Turn

I wanted this character to have a square shape face as I wanted her to look "robot-like". I wanted her head turn to be very settle and smooth, considering the fact that she slowly notices the sun. I put every shape in a different layer to make everything easier to move. To do the actual head turn, I changed the size of the head frame by frame, as she turns around. I also made her hair swing to emphasize the head turn. I'm happy that it didn't come out too choppy, I do however regret that I didn't add some color to the character.

Walk Cycle

Weight

For this project I decided to do a stick figure man struggle to lift off a couple of books from a table. Making a reference video in class really helped with understanding the way the body moves from beginning to end of lifting a heavy object. I tried to focus mostly on the legs bending and having him taking a few steps back from the impact of the weight. I also made sure to put the books in a separate layer as I wanted them to make some sort of movement by themselves. My original idea was to have him fall all the way back with the books falling over him, however, I decided on a more settle ending.

Gesture Sketches

I decided to sketch Spongebob for this assignment, one of my favorite characters! I would say that it was harder than I though it would be. Because his body is a square, it was a little challenging not to make each pose look the same. I realized that the cross lines really helped me figure out how to shape the square and where to place all the facial features. My favorite pose is the one of him sitting down and turning his head. That pose was also the most challenging! Overall, I had a lot of fun sketching Spongebob and now that I have the skill, I'll probably continue doing it!
